Reef Walk at Low Tide
When the tide goes out, the reef between Watamu beach and the island is exposed and you can walk across it. Your guide leads the way, shows you the safe path and tells you when to turn back.
Rock Pools and Sea Life
The reef pools hold starfish, sea urchins, crabs, small fish and hermit crabs. Your guide points them out and explains what they are. Look and take photos, but leave everything where you find it.
Love Island Beach
The island is known for its heart shape when seen from above. It has a quiet white sand beach, with clear water for a swim and space to sunbathe. Local stories about how it got its name differ, and your guide shares the ones they know.
Time to Relax
After exploring you have free time on the beach to swim, rest or take photos before the tide returns.

Good to Know
- The tide decides the trip: You can only walk to the island when the tide is low. On days when the low tide is late in the afternoon or very early, we move the time or suggest another day.
- Wear reef shoes: The reef is sharp and has sea urchins. Wear reef shoes or old trainers, not flip flops.
- Do not touch: Do not pick up starfish, shells or coral, and do not stand on live coral. The reef is protected.
- Turn back on time: The tide comes in fast. Your guide will call the return, so please follow the time.
- What to bring: Swimwear, a towel, a hat, sunglasses, reef-safe sunscreen and a bottle of water.
- Walking: The reef is uneven and slippery in places. The walk is not suitable for wheelchairs or for people with limited mobility.
- Children: Children can join if an adult holds their hand on the reef. Tell us their ages when you book.
- Combine it: For a full day at sea, see our Safari Blue Watamu or Sardegna 2 Watamu trips.
