Frequently Asked Questions

What you need to know before you book a safari from Nairobi.

Three days is the shortest trip that makes sense for the Maasai Mara, because the drive takes about 5 hours each way. Five days lets you combine two or three parks. Seven days or more suits a longer route through Amboseli, Tsavo and the Mara.

Wildlife can be seen all year. The dry months of June to October and January to February make animals easier to find because they gather near water. The wildebeest migration in the Mara usually runs from July to October.

On a private safari only your party travels in the vehicle, and you decide the start time, the stops and the pace. On a group safari you share the vehicle with other travellers and follow a fixed schedule.

You need a passport valid for at least 6 months and an approved eTA. Apply for the eTA online on the official Kenya government website before you travel.

No vaccine is required for most travellers. A yellow fever certificate is needed if you arrive from a country with yellow fever risk. Malaria tablets are a personal choice, so ask your doctor before you travel. Bring a good insect repellent.

Wear light layers in neutral colours like beige, khaki, brown and olive green. Avoid bright colours, and avoid black and dark blue, which attract tsetse flies. Bring a warm jacket for early morning drives and closed comfortable shoes.

Most nationalities need a Kenya eTA. Apply online at etakenya.go.ke at least three days before travel.

Book three to six months ahead for peak season (July to October). One to two months is usually enough for low season. Gorilla permits for Uganda and Rwanda should be booked six to twelve months in advance.

Every package is full board, with breakfast, lunch and dinner at lodges or tented camps inside or next to the parks. We confirm the exact accommodation for each night before you pay.
